A lot of my video files in .mpg dont work, and the warning sign is always that i need an updated codec.

Which is the best free codec out there for Mac OS X ?

The codec required to play the media file you're trying to play at the moment is the best one out there.

Have you installed the divx codecs yet?

Have you tried playing them in VLC?

All I know/understand is how to play them in their default format.

How do I play them any other way?

What version of the divx program should I be looking for?

DiVX is a codec that's generally used for .avi files, not MPEG files. I also recommend downloading and installing the Video LAN Client (aka VLC), as it has codecs built into the program that support more Windows-ish video formats than QuickTime Player does.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out. About 50% of the movies I download on Limewire don't play on my Mac, it pisses me off.

Speaking of Limewire, anyone else having any problems with it?

I don't use LimeWire, I like using Poisoned instead:

    http://www.gottsilla.net

It supports more P2P protocols than just LimeWire/Gnutella. ;p
