So, an assignment for my B&W photography class is to illustrate what DOF is. Oh boy, what a doozie, I know!

Anyway, I'm trying to think of creative/cool ways of showing a shallow DOF and was looking for a little input. I've got a 50 1.8 and extension tubes so cutting the DOF isn't going to be an issue.

So far I've been thinking of a pic of a tree branch (they're all dead around here) with the bg thrown way OOF. The other idea I had was a chess board with peices and a razor thin DOF. Other than that I can't think of any way that's "creative" to show DOF, I don't feel like taking pictures of batteries, or bullshit like that, I want it to be somewhat cool, any ideas input? :hsugh:

Have a repetitive object and shoot the closest one in focus with the rest obviously being way oof. The repetition should make your point pretty clear.

That just gave me an awesome idea. I think I'm going to set up some Christmas lights and playing with the specular highlights!

Why did you call us douchebags? And why did you act like you think this assignment is easy, but ask us how to do it?

when I had to do this assignment I laid down in my grass, and focused on a couple blades of grass real close and had a big black lawnmower looming in the background oof.

It was hysterical. I'll have to see if I can find it.

I like it! Too bad I haven't seen grass in like 6 months. I might try it with a minature snowman and a snow shovel comming at him in the background. That would be cool.
