Just need some help configuring the Rebel 450D (XSi) as the master flash and 580EX II as an off camera slave flash.

    Thanks!

go buy a peanut slave (cheapest), or any number of radio triggers.

580ex doesn't have an optical trigger in it, except for the infrared

The pop up flash of the XSi (or any Canon) cannot be a master. Nikon does this, Canon does not. You need to use the 580exII as the master while on the flash, and buy another flash (580ex, 430ex, etc) to use as a slave off camera.

Or you can buy the ST-e2 as an on camera flash transmitter.

Or buy pocket wizards, cyber syncs, cactus triggers, radio poppers, etc...
