I didn't know whether to post this here or in Gamers Pulse, so I posted it in both.

I'm planning on upgrading my computer a bit for gaming. The computer in question is a somewhat old eMachines T2200+. The processor is an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ at 1.8MHz, 512MB DDR SDRAM, and I recently added a 160GB hard drive.

What I had in mind was a new graphics card (preferably ATi), more memory (1GB or more, if possible), and if I have enough cash, a new sound card capable of 5.1 surround to go with my Logitech Z5500s. But the most important is the memory and the graphics card. My computer is a few years old, so I think it only has an AGP slot for the graphics card. My goal is to run Counter Strike Source on it relatively smoothly.

My budget is at most $500 and can only buy things that are readily availably at the large electronics stores, so no online.

    Thanks in advance.

you really need a new mobo/cpu/vid card and 512mb more ram to play cs:s well. think 3200+/cheap939mobo/6600gt

Here's what I had in mind after looking around.

I want to know how difficult it would be to install those things and if a new motherboard is really neccessary. I want to go up for a gig of memory, but a gig stick would really eat into the cash I have for the actual video card. And if a new motherboard is really neccessary, is that one the way to go?
