how well do you like this neighbor? haha j/k

You have to figure in some costs if you REALLY wanted to figure it out. but we'll be simple for the fact that it's your neighbor..

    - 5.00 for pic printing (maybe more?) I know costco prints 12X18 for 2.99 so thats what i was basing this on
    - Atleast 12 bucks for a nice frame
    - Atleast another 15 for Mat
    _________________________
    Your cost = $32
X 2.5 (my standard markup for time and energy, its really only 150% but takes into consideration other backend costs)
    ___________________________________
    Total = $80.00

When you think about it, that is not that bad of pricing for original artwork matted, framed and on archival paper.

Remember, you want EVERYONE who sees the pic to ask where it came from, and for her to get as many inquiries as possible, so make sure it looks great.

Also remember that you invested time into taking the pic, time into putting it into a frame and matting it, gas driving to the stores, the initial cost of your equipment for which this wouldnt have been possible without, etc. I know it seems trivial, but if you REALLY want to figure out your bottom line, this is how the major players do it. Most of them amortize their travel and gear prices in as well. Like i said though, we're keeping it easy because you arent on that level, and because its your neighbor.

Now you know why artists with galleries charge so damn much for their prints.

oh and yes, technically, selling something would make you professional... but real world, pros are the ones that are doing this and making a living on it, or atleast a substantial second imcome.

You might be the reason it's so hard for pro photographers to charge good money for prints.. As you can see by my post above, $25 doesnt even cover it.

you should try and straighten it, and maybe include the bottom of the flower pot.

flowers on right side look weird. maybe it's the color showing through from background?
how does it look without b/w background?

so here is a update on that picture, i sold it for 30 bucks, went to a local print store and got a nice looking frame on sale for 5 bucks and 2.99 for a mat, and had a local photo shop print the picture for 3.50, my neighbor came today and told me that her friend wants the same picture in a frame too, i hope i can still get the same frame that cheap.

yeah i definitely wouldn't want to price based on a sale price because then you are stuck when someone else wants it. its a nice picture for someone in her position

well i guess you aret a photographer because if you where you would know that the colors are like that because they are desaturated, and the backround is B/W. it is made to look like that. people have differen tastes and different opinions
