Unless you do a lot of heavy computing along the lines of audio/video editing/rendering, you should go with the E8400.

With a DS3 board, you can get them close to 4ghz on air.

The majority of computing apps are not multi-threaded. Might as well go with what's fastest for you today.

You're wanting to do the 1066 memory? Best choice would be Corsair or Crucial, imo.

save some money by getting the Q6600 instead or the E8400 dual core as doc said.

you may want to wait for the new Intel P45 chipset coming out this June.

    DDR2-800 RAM speed minimum

The P45 is 800 minimum, or the board he picked is?

The reason I asked, is if you meant the P45, then that must mean it's still going to use DDR2 then.

If you can get lucky to find the Q6600 on sale anywhere again - it's a damn good deal. Mine is sitting on the dresser in my bedroom (paid $189).

And the Abit IX38 Quad GT has a $90 rebate right now making that right around $140 shipped if the rebate comes through.
