IDE or SATA? Is it on its own ribbon, plugged into the proper place on the motherboard. Did you plug in the power connector? Do you have another optical drive and your master/slave/cable select isn't set properly?

Does it come up in Bios?

It's IDE. Well i have the cd burner that came with the computer so that one is hooked up as the master....there is another plug in that i would assume be the slave that i have tried plugging into the dvd burner....as far as everything else i think its all hooked up but it has yet to come up on the bios....i dont know if i am just forgetting something

So the original burner is set as master and the new burner is set as slave correct? Did you go into the bios and make sure both IDE1 and IDE2 are on or set to auto?
