i get this stupid error message every time i try to install something and when i boot up my computer:

the name in the title bar seems to be irrelevant as the name of whatever program i am installing appears there, and it is always the same path that is shown "\Device\Harddisk1\DR3". usually i can click "continue" a few times and it will allow me to proceed. but this time when installing mysql, it wouldn't go away.

NOTE: when i installed xp, my normal "c:" partition became "f:", and my zip drive became "c:". could this have something to do with it? is it searching for something on the c drive?

Yeah - safe yourself grief now and reinstall XP with the zip drive unplugged. There is a way to make it work on a drive other than C:, but you are going to spin your wheels too much vs. starting over.

thanks, i guess i'll have to...
btw, why does the zip get assigned to c: (or vice versa)?

It's the first device that is recognized as media I would imagine - all depends on how you have it set up. If you unplug it, the OS can't make that mistake.
