I've got about 8 icons on my desktop that lead to absolutely nothing. They're all 0 bytes and when I try to delete them it tells me it cannot access the source file or disk. I tried safemode and some thing called delete dr but with no success. I even tried to make the file hidden just so I wouldn't have to see them but that didn't work either. Any suggestions?:x:

Rename the file, then go into safemode to delete it.

Open up a command prompt, then go to Start->Shutdown, and hold CTRL+SHIFT+ALT and press Cancel. Explorer should die gracefully. Now you can go back to the cmd window, and type
    Code:
    cd C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Desktop
(replacing <username> with your Windows username!) or whatever directory your desktop is stored. Now
    Code:
    del <filename>
where <filename> is the name of the file you want to delete. Then CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to bring up the task manager, File->new Task(Run...) and type explorer.exe. You should be done! :):) :)

I haven't tried that because I don't need it, but if that process works then it should be added to some kind of Tips & Tricks sticky.
