For most occasions I only need to reach out to 100 yards, and it will primarily be a HD weapon, so I'm mainly looking for a red dot or low power variable scope. I eventually want a Trijicon Accupoint but I won't be able to afford one for quite a while, so in the mean time I'm mainly looking around the $200 price point. Bushnell Holosights are around that range, how are they? What about this scope, a few OTers have recommended them:

Is 2 MOA small enough for 100 yards? :hs: I'm open to any suggestions, so fire away.

    that's the Vanaras M4 replica

I have one...on my airsoft gun.

I suppose it's probably alright, I dunno that the dot is exactly gonna be 2 MOA though.

I have a 2 MOA Aimpoint M3 on my AR and I am happy with it's performance. You can bloom a 2 MOA Aimpoint to about 4 MOA if you turn the brightness way up.

Check out the Millett DMS. Those are kinda sick.

  3. What about iron sights? You'd have no problem out to 100 yards with them, and they're quite accurate. I know they're not as sexy as some hi-tech optic, but they work. I'm a big fan of iron sights on ARs. If you're considering it for home defense, use a tritium front sight post. Never needs batteries, nothing to turn on, pretty much indestructible.

I like the eotech (bushnell included then I suppose) more in theory than in practice. In the dark the red ring was distracting to me. I also think its a real pain to fiddle with the buttons to set the brightness every time you turn it on.

I say save your money for a little longer, pick up an aimpoint or accupoint someone is trying to get rid of to pay the tax bill or rent in the next few months.

if you're going to get an aimpoint, it might as well be the T1; does everything the others do but weighs a lot less.

acogs are also damn good products. i have the TA33 (3x30) and have no problems hitting 100 yds

In all fairness to the fakepoint....I have one, kept it on the AR for a while (also had a 3-9x scope on a rail mount too). At the range, 100 yard targets were fine, probably shot groups pie plate sized with it. The only problem I had with the fakepoint was that the two watch battery type cells would occasionally seperate due to the recoil and turn off the LED. Replaced that with some other single cell battery and it was perfect.

Would I take it into a warzone....no. Would it put a few rounds into some asshat in a hallway.....sure.

Ok I think I'm going to use iron sights for now, but my eye sight isnt' that great and I think with my shooting ability I'll need a little bit more reach get any decent groups at 100 yards. I'm mainly looking at Accupoints and I'm having trouble deciding what type to get. I like the idea of the 1.25-4x because at the lowest power it wouldn't be too hard to shoot with both eyes open, and 4x should be enough reach for 100 yards. But it would be nice to have the option to go out to 200-300 yards and mildots would be nice to have as well, so the 3-9x would also be beneficial. :dunno: Someone help point me in the right direction.

I like the 4.5-14x APV that I currently have on my AR but want an illuminated mildot so I'm looking at the 3-9x Accupoint as well. If you do the 30% off eBay thing you can pick up a new one for $392 shipped. Makes it REALLY hard to not pick up.

Well my cashback wasn't instant so I paid $560 shipped and I'll get the $168 in 2 months. Still worth it IMO. Now I have to get a 17HMR rifle to put my APV on. :coolugh:

Someone posted a link to this scope a while back and I really like the ranging system it uses

    http://www.grsc.com/combatriflescope.php

Although I guess it's not terribly useful unless you're shooting at people . I guess I'll have to learn how to use mil dots.

I'm probably going to end up getting Soybomb's 1.25-4x red triangle if he still has it when the funds are available. Keep the discussion going though I'd like to keep reading about what other options are out there.

well, you can still use the glass with the a-frame of the FSB on, but, it does get sort of distracting

So are there any more affordable mounts for the Accupoint? I'll buy a LaRue in the future but I just need something to get the scope on there for now. I'm not using it to go to Iraq or anything, just for trips to the range. I'm sticking with irons for HD.
