Here is the low down. There is an old laptop at work and the hard drive went out on it. I went out and bought a new hard drive. Installed it. Everything is set.
I have my Windows98 Boot Disk as well ad the Windows 98 CD.
I am able to set the a drive to boot but I am unable to set the D drive to read the cd in Dos. I dont know what the hell to do. I also can not change the directory to the D: drive not the C: drive.
When change the startup settings in the bios to boot from Drive A first then C, it will run off A, but when I dont have a disk in, and it runs off C, i get "invalid system disk replace the disk and then press any key"

When I have the boot disk in and restart the computer, it says this:

    ----------

    Starting Windows 98...
ATAPI IDE CD-ROM device driver version blah blah
    Copyright blah blah
    1 drive(s) detected
    unit 0, MASTER, IRQ 15, I/) address 0x0170

    A:\>rem------------------MTM ATAPI CD-ROM------------------

    A:\>a:\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MTMIDE01 /M: 10
    MSCDEX Version 2.25
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp. 1986-1995. All Rights reserved.
    Drive D: = Driver MTMIDE01 unit 0

    A:\>rem------------------MTM ATAPI CD-ROM------------------

    A:\>

    A:\>

I seriously dont know how to get this damn OS installed. Friggin old crap.

    Someone please help me.

You need to partition the hard disk first. Run fdisk and create a single primary partition using the entire disk. Enable large drive support. Reboot to the floppy and format the C drive. "format c:" Once you do that, log on to the D drive, change to the win98 folder, and run setup.
