I've *finally* gotten all the PCs on the LAN and the internet, and my roommate (using win 98 :gag: ) insists on using WMP to acess my MP3s through the network. there's only one problem. it will randomly (about 50% chance) cause WMP to lock up when it goes to find a computer on the network. I've tried eliminating every factor I can (background apps, computers acessing each other on the network), but it's still a random occurance. I'm about ready to cram a XP CD and winamp file down my roommate's throat so I can get all this setup the way she wants it.

You could map the drive letter to the IP address instead of the NetBIOS name.

Agreed. Windows and apps like talking to mapped drives better than a SMB UNC.
