So it's my g/f's birthday on the 27th of this month and I have no idea what to get her. She loves photography though and always mentions how she wants a long distance or macro lens for her Canon Rebel XT.

I'm not even sure the size of her current lense, maybe 18-55mm, but whatever. Does anyone have advice on a good lense that lets her take some long distance photos, she was also mentioning macro lenses although I'm not sure what that entails exactly.

She mentioned abesofmaine.com also for photography stuff, is this site good or whats the best site to order from.

    Thanks a bunch.

Oh and price range is around $500. Our anniversary is the 11th of july so this will be part of it, then I'll just get something smaller for that, like a vibrator and flowers, plus dinner at Ruth Chris :kdubb:

Damn it's gonna be an expensive month ~_~

If she wants a telephoto they make a special telephoto for women photographers. :mamoru:

Another question is how hard will it to get clear shots with the 70-200mm and no tripod. The IS is quite a bit more but I think her current lens might have it. I'm asking her sister to check to see what her exact current lens is. I know nothing about lenses and just know she would like a lens that can zoom more and take pictures of wildlife and stuff further away.

I've been reading up on reviews @ www.the-digital-picture.com all day and am trying to understand things better. From what it seems like the zoom is the max mm length divided by 50? Is it worth getting the 1.4x II Extender? Thanks for all the help, I don't know shit about cameras.

as long as she keeps her shutter speed up it will be fine. if she shoots the lens at 1/125 at the short end and 1/250 at the long end she should never have a problem with shake if she can hold decently steady.

the Canon 100-400 is an affordable wildlife lens, also. Some opt for the 300 f/4.0 with a 1.4x teleconverter for the extra focal length.

Wow those are very nice, oh and her current lens is the 18-55mm ES F. So this would be a good upgrade yes? And is it worth spending an extra $250 for the 1.4x II extender since she wants more zoom?

If yes I'm gonna order tomorrow so I can get it by the 26th.

yes this would be a great upgrade. i would probably hold off on the tele-converter.

she is going to have way more reach then she is used to as it is with the 70-200.
