Offered a decent deal for a Canon XTi, I can get the body only, or the 18-55mm lens with it for $55 more.
My question is, should I go for the combo or is my money better spent buying a different lens. I'd like to keep the lens around $100... I know, that's probably asking the world, but I'm new to the game and am not ready to drop $500+ on a lens.

    Any other suggestions are welcome.

how much are you getting it for? to me personally its not worth getting an XT or Xti anymore when 30d and 20d prices have dropped like a rock.

body only for $275 like new, guy barely used it. Advantages on getting a 20D or 30D? I don't know that much about them

noise performance, faster Autofocus performance, IQ, ergonomics, more options, better "growing into photography" type of camera.

just quick searching... most 30D seem to be going for $500+ for body only. Am I looking in the wrong places? (google, B&H)

look through the canon forums. also craigslist. You can have a 20d for around 300+ rigth now. 30d for right around 400+

I know with Nikon that 100 bucks isn't going to get you a lens you're going to be any happier with than any of the kit lenses. Your budget for the lense might be best served with saving for a couple of months to get something.

Thanks for the input. Someone else suggested the Canon 50mm f/1.4 IS. So, I'm looking at that, too.

I'm stuck between a 20D and 30D. I think the larger LCD is worth the difference because I usually review pics through my Canon G2 to make sure it's in focus, etc.

I suppose the spring driven shutter on the XSi wouldn't last that long. Glad I switched :noes:

mine never skipped a beat. I have had 4 40d's, 2 30ds, and 1 20d. All have had there amount of use not abuse. and they never had a problem. However a friend of mine who used his camera infrequently, maybe about 7k on his 40d, his shutter took a shit.
