need a transmission for a sb400

    the car is a 85 monte carlo ss, already been through 3 stock trannys :o, what does ot think i should get.... im also planning on swapping out the rearend after i get the trans squared away

    Are you throwing a stock replacement at it, or are you looking to spend some coin on a performance/rebuild?

    yeah i was putting stock replacements... im looking to spend a little cash to get it right this time.... i plan on changing the rearend after i change the tranny

    Go with a worked 200-4R. Unless you're boosting or spraying it'll handle the power a I/H/C sbc 400 puts out, is lighter than the 700, and provides a decent first and overdrive. Go with short gears if you want burn-outs and tall gears if you want cruise friendly RPM.
