And I DON'T want to use aol. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to be using my cellphone to connect as well (through my usb cable... it's a Motorola Mpx200 Windows Mobile Smartphone). Anyone have any ideas they could give me?

Does NetZero or Juno still offer free dialup? I know at one point Lycos did as well. If you're a student many times your school will have a dial up number for students to access.

go to a grocery or blockbuster and grab free disks. Sadly most are aol, but i've seen earthlink and others...that should be like free 3 months a piece...

I have the free version of Netzero installed just for when the cable internet goes out and and shit. It works great and I think they allow like 5 hrs a month, which is more than enough just to use on the side.
