    Hey All,

I'm going to europe soon and anticipate taking a ton of indoor pics (churches and museums, things like that). I currently have a Canon Rebel XT with a 28-135 IS lens and the Canon 10-22. I need to take pictures in the dark churches where they allow no flash, monopods, or tripods. I was thinking the canon 50mm f1.4, does anybody else have any suggestions? I have about $800 to spend and I know the 50mm is only ~325 from bh, but I'm unsure if this is what I need. Do you think 50mm is right for my subject, and is f1.4 fast enough for a dark cathedral? I eventually want to pickup a 24-70 f2.8 and could get a NON-canon lens within my budget, would f2.8 be okay?

sigma 30mm 1.4. The 50mm might not be wide enough for your subject. I would get the sigma 30mm 1.4. Shoot you might as well get both the 50 and 30.

Wow, I didn't expect that to cost more than the canon. I like the wide angle of it though.

Canon does make the 35mm F2, but people say the 30mm sigma is the way to go. Plus with the Sigma you get a faster shutter since the canon 35mm is only f2.

The sigma 30mm and canon 50mm 1.4 are next on my list :big grin:

widest, fastest thing you can get. f2.8 does nothing under ~1/30th @ ISO800 in some of those old churches. Also, 30 will not be wide enough for what you'll want, go with the 20mm.

If it were me and the quality of that sigma were known to be atleast decent, that's what i'd probably go for, either that or the 30 1.4. I don't know anything about their image quality though, but going by the numbers, that's probably what i would want.

buy and sell and be out $150-200? That's not terribly bad for 1 months use of an awesome lens.

    I'm leaning toward the 30mm 1.4 sigma I think...

I got a canon 24mm 2.8 for like 185 used. The autofocus is loud as fuck though... and it may be too slow for your use.

:werd: i would look at it that way, thats kind of what I did with my 17-40F4L, it essentially cost me about 100 bucks to "rent" it for 3 months.
