Im looking to slim down some and not really sure how to approach it. Ive been told cardio is the way to go. Im not really looking to gain muscle/get stronger. Im just trying go get rid of some fat around my chest and abs. Im around 190-200 and Id like to get down to 180 if possible.

I plan on joining a gym at the end of the week. What sort of exercises should I do to aid in this?

if you want to lose weight, watching your diet is a good place to start.

go to fitday and start logging your calories. to lose weight you want to eat about 12 calories for every pound you weigh, eg 2400 calories @ 200lbs. Once you reach your target weight, it's about 15 calories per pound.

weight training and cardio will give you different results. If you want to increase your endurance and the efficiency of your heart, choose cardio, in which case i'd suggest running outside. since you're not looking for more strength/muscle, weight training might not be for you.

aside from this, you might want to look through the F&N archives, it has a lot of information about most topics.

What everybody else said. Read the stickies; you need to lift even if your goals are weight loss; and diet is 80% of it.
