seen GITS, Im kinda going for something like lagann/bleach etc where the main character has buried power and has to go nuts to get it to surface etc. I know thats vague...

Yu Yu Hakusho. Old one, but enjoyable to watch. Lots of tournament type fighting. Kinda like DBZ without the unnecessary talking and endless stalling powerups.

Basquash is currently airing still and has a main character who sort of needs to go crazy to surpass the latest challenge. It also has a lot of the fun vibe and sillyness that TTGL has while still being serious at times and having plenty of awesome.

    yeah go for black lagoon

although to be honest what you're describing is typical shounen, not many serious shows that use it

hmm try watching darker than black if you haven't

    Yeah Black Lagoon is good.

Some other series that, while not exactly what you said you were looking for, are worth watching:

    Samurai Champloo
One Piece (this is very long, but worth it)
    Rurouni Kenshin
    RahXephon
    Eureka Seven
    Hajime no Ippo
    Hayate no Gotoku!
    Last Exile

I have no idea what you have seen or what you like but there is a bit of variety there so check out the summaries on wikipedia or something but imo those are all worth watching for sure. They are all completed shows as well (cept One Piece, but it is over 400 episodes long now so it will be some time before you get through them all) There are some shows airing right now that are worth checking out as well.

And I already said it, but will say it again. Anyone who liked TTGL needs to check out Basqush! asap. It is the closest series I have ever seen to TTGL in terms of quality and spirit. My favorite currently airing show And that says alot with shows like FMA: Brotherhood and Hayate No Gotoku! 2nd series on the air right now.

And a good place to check out a couple episodes of a show to see if you like it or not without downloading is www.animeseason.com a really good streaming site with alot of stuff on there.

    Basquash!!!!!!
