    I know:

"cheap, fast, reliable; pick 2" I WANT ALL 3

But what used car can get me close? I want something that's fun to drive, reliable (will last a long time - I will probably drive it into the ground), and around $10k (if it's a little more at a dealer, that's fine because I will haggle)

    What are you recommendations?

I like the Subaru Impreza 2.5rs/2.5i (depending on the year) a lot but they're already somewhat uncommon around here and then it's even harder to find one with a manual transmission

Hona Accord EX coupe (4-cyl) is awesome too... there's a blue one around here with mtx, leather, 2003, 90k miles for right under 10k

would it be stupid to buy a 2003 accord EX coupe, 5-spd, leather, w/ 95k miles in great shape?

That was my goal late last year, and I ended up with an RSX Type-S. I found a nice '03 with 72k miles for $9500.

It can hold a ton of stuff, the interior is nice and it rides well (by my standards -- I'm coming from an Integra and a Miata before that), and it's a blast to drive. The hatch is a big selling point for me: it makes it a very useful car for its size. You don't get that utility in compact or even mid-size cars with trunks. The RSX has everything I want or need in a daily/only car, and I plan to keep it around a long time.

If you want fast or involving to drive, you don't want a 4-cylinder Accord. 160 hp, 3000 lbs and soft suspension doesn't add up to a lot of thrills. It will eat cheaper gas and ride nicer, though.

The WRX is a pretty good car, too. Just different. I didn't buy one because the ones in my price range ('02-03) all seemed pretty chewed up compared to some of the other options. If you can find one, the Saab 9-2x (aka Saabaru) is a great alternative, available in n/a or turbo form.

I was however, pretty strongly tempted to buy a Mercury Marauder. Those can be had clean and quite cheap if you look in the right places :)

Ended up with a Mazda 3 hatchback manual. LOVE it!

Upped my price range to 12k OTD, and it worked out great

If your willing to do some modding, I would pick up a 92 and newer Lexus Sc300...you can get a clean one for about 5k, or as cheap as like 2 to 3k if it needs some work...Drop 2k on rims, and 3k on a turbo kit and your right at 10k...you have a car that will look sick, and run mid to low 12s on pump, only downfall is that its hard to find a 5spd most are auto

Not a bad choice, I had a Mazda6 but I would have gone with an RSX-S.

I got a base rsx and love it. Not fast but it's reliable, fun to drive, and good on gas.
