Well, I went cheap and got the d50 with the kit lens and never really got into photography much since. But a couple of days ago a friend let me borrow the kit lens on his d80 and I never would have guessed how much of a difference this made.

Problem is, I don't have much cash to spend on this. So, can anyone recommend a decently priced lens for me?

Which lens do you have? Which does he have?

Both of these cameras came with a few different 'kit lenses', depending on which kit you bought.

I bought my d80, and got the 18-70mm lens, which is a HUGE improvement over the 18-55 kit lens others have gotten with their d80 kits...

Also, a little info on what type of lens you're looking for would help, along with the exact reasons your not happy with the lens you have...

Save up and get the 18-200 VR, if you can scrounge together like, 800 bucks.

I wish more people would listen to our suggestions when they ask around for cameras and we tell them go with X lens

im not talking about your particular case, its just that a big amount of people dont seem to notice how much does a decent lens does for them.

    Thats the truth... ^

I'd have thrown my camera away by now if I got the 18-55 instead of the 18-70 like you guys told me...

Nikon 18-70 is a good one.

Tamron 17-50 2.8 might also be a good lens for you. The faster glass is a nice plus and I have always liked the color rendition on the Tamron.

    Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8G. It's a decent lens. Doubles as a hand-to-hand combat weapon.

Not terribly cheap, but save up the pennies. (moral of the story, save up, get something good)

How much are you paying? Tell me how you like it when you get it. It sounds like the ideal zoom, besides going for something dirt cheap till I have the money for something like the 70-200 2,8.
