Asus, LG, Pioneer, Lite On or Samsung?

I need a NEC burner at work with a specific program that calls for a NEC burner, can't find any locally so I'm getting a new one to replace my NEC at home.

Asus, LG, Pioneer, LiteOn and Samsung are the ones I can find locally. I don't care about litescribe, just being able to do DL discs. I'd like SATA, but all my SATA ports are used, so I need IDE.

LiteOn is nice but the one I have, although an older model, is kinda loud.
With your choices, I'd still go with LiteOn if you can't get NEC.

I wouldn't put too much thought into it as burners have become increasingly cheap...therefore replacing one if it were to go bad is not a big deal.

Agree with Wolf. I switched from a samsung to a lite-on and although the liteon is nice and fast, it is a bit louder than the samsung.

By the time you factor in the return shipping and hassle, you might as well buy a new one if one goes bad anymore.

    Gotta love me some capitalism!

i've had liteon, asus, and nec

my liteon died after a year and was super loud, it was pata
the asus is going strong, it's really quiet because thats what its made to be (quiettrack), but it's also a little slower at dvd rips compared to my other drives. it's sata
my nec drive is awesome, fast and pretty quiet, but is pata. i don't like those clunky cables
