You know how everyone says HEY GUYZ EACH POUND OF MUSCLE BURNS 9000 CALORIES A DAY!

Well back in the day either ceaze or christophers posted one study that showed the caloric requirements per lb of muscle were much lower. I need that.

    Thank you and good night.

the study is callled "Dissecting Energy Needs of the Body" PMID 11224660 but full text is not freely available (that i can find at least) and the abstract doesn't give you the #'s.

i believe this is a copy of the chart that you want though

    Code:
able 1. Contribution of organs and tissues to resting energy expenditure
    and actual body weight

Organ or tissue Organ metabolic rate % Overall Weight (% ABW)
                         (kcal/kg/day) REE (kg)
    Adipose 4.5 4 15.0 (21.4)
    Other 12 16 23.2 (33.1)
    Muscle 13 22 28.0 (40.0)
    Liver 200 21 1.8 (2.6)
    Brain 240 22 1.4 (2.0)
    Heart 400 9 0.3 (0.5)
    Kidneys 400 8 0.3 (0.5)

ABW, actual body weight; REE, resting energy expenditure.
`Other' tissue consisted of bone, skin, intestine, glands [6].

    There's a newer one than that though I thought- fat 3 cals/pound, muscle 6 cals/pound. I'm trying to find it, it's being a PITA.
