only if you are very computer savvy

    dell's tech support is horrid

alls ive heard is people bitch about having to talk to people in india that they can't understand or are very rude with the customer.

so i guess if you're tech savvy and you treat the thing like a baby, go for it, otherwise, if some shit breaks and you want it serviced / replaced under warranty you know who you'll be dealing with.

Their tech support is not horrid, I was having minor problems with mine, I called, after 5 minutes, they shipped me a brand new laptop, which I got 5 days later.

:ugh: no. I had a Toshiba and it was awful. Brought it in a total of 5 times to Best Buy (i know :mamoru:) for service, and it still was a pile of shit. They took it back finally, and I got a new one.

The Dell Inspirion E1505 is awesome and can be had for under $1,000. The E1705 is bigger and bulkier and it's the model I have. While I love it, there are times I wish I had gone with the 1505 because it's much lighter and not nearly as bulky.

Mac's are friggin pimp for size to weight ratios....so light...so cool. However, you should look for an Apple store near you so you can see them in person before you buy.

I'm wondering this as well. My 4 year old Thinkpad R32, while still working flawlessly, is getting a little slow for my tastes. I'm torn between another Thinkpad and a Dell. :dunno:

And lol @ the grossly overpriced Macbooks. If you enjoy wiping your ass with your money, then go with the Mac.

Even Dells? Don't be a little spoiled priss now.

What are you looking in for a laptop? is battery life a factor? How strong does the processor need to be? RAM? What is the main purpose of the computer? Is there a limit on screen size?

To be honest, I've just purchased a Dell E1505 with a 15.4" WXGATruebright screen (glossy), T7200 Intel Core 2 Duo, 2G RAM, 120 GB HD, DVD burner, and a 256 MB ATi Radeon X1400.

I got that all for $1,100 and I couldn't be happier. I love love love love love this laptop ten times over.

you should srsly get the extended battery if you haven't already. I got a 9 cell for my 1705 and I can run it at full resolution, brightness and not power anything down and still get 3+ hours of life out of it.

I also upgraded to the 2g of ram but got the nvidia card...it's now my primary gaming machine.

I had a Thinkpad for school and had problems with it. I now have Dells (OK, I'm a Dell Certified Tech) but it is sooo much easier to work on than the Thinkpad (why don't the engineers have to take these suckers apart)
