What would you recommend I get? I need space to fit 2x8800GTX and 6 HDs. My current case has 6 HD slots, but the 8800GTX is way too long, so I had to Macgyver a spot for the 2 HDs (on the floor of the case) since I was forced to take them out of the HD cage because the card didn't fit. So I imagine the case has to be about 4 inches longer.

Right now I got this thing: http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=005076&cid=CS.664

Lian Li makes some cases with HD mounts under the MB tray. Not sure if you'll have room for both Video cards though. But might be something worth looking into.

ah, the infamous coolermaster wavemaster ripoff.

What's your budget? Silverstone and Lian Li both make great cases that work for your needs. the CMStacker may work, as well.

edit: avoid thermaltake like the plague; No self-respecting computer geek uses their products.

Thermaltake flat-out steals other companies designs. I will boycott their products for ethical reasons.

However, because they steal their designs and do a cheap job at copying them, the practical upshot is that you can get better quality products that they copied, usually for the same/less money.

That case you posted is a rip-off of the CoolerMaster CM Stacker.

Everything is a copy of something... I dont really mind if they copied someone. I just want a good case that doesn't cost $400....

And the CM Stacker is a ripoff of the PowerMac G5 tower. What's your point?

I can't think of a single thing on the CM Stacker that ripped off a mac. Do enlighten me... Not a single thing. What, they're both made of metal?

Are perhaps you thinking of the Lian Li V2000? Which the CM Stacker is not at all like?

They're not particularly alike. Yes, they're made of metal and they're vertical towers and they have perforated fronts, but mostly your definition of "copy" is so vague that I can actually get away with saying the Stacker rips off the G5. Meanwhile, I don't see any particular resemblance between the Stacker and the case the OP posted.

You have not seen either case in person then:

98% identical... Except add some stupid half-doors (why?) and destroy the double-psu functionality and put 3 hard drives in it's place :ugh:

I dunno about you, but I need the space for the extra HDs, and I dont need a second PSU.

If you haven't dealt with Bigfoot before, they are great. I have used them a dozen or so times and their service has always been top notch.

I have a front panel control, two optical drives, a sb audigy2platinum front panel, floppy drive, and eight hard drives... and I *still* have room left over.

When you're running all that expensive equipment, you don't want it to get fried because the PSU can't supply enough wattage all the time. Eight hard drives all spinning up at once is a pretty hefty load for any PSU to handle.

He has the CMStacker that he's been praising. I guess it has some kind of an adaptor cage you can buy that turns three 5.25" bays into five 3.5" bays; two of those gets you ten hard drives with room to spare.

EDIT: You're still nuts for building a monster like this as a desktop machine, though. If you need capacity, you should make a server to store data so you can access it anywhere in your house and even from other places around the world if you ever need to.

I have the CM Stacker. Sometimes 2PSUs can be desired for power concerns. I just have some extra fans mounted in place of the top PSU.

I'd do this as well. Have that computer also run bittorrent/newsgroups. Sit it in the closet w/o a monitor/kb/mouse & use mstsc to administrate. Set it's BIOS to 'power on after power failure' and stuff the whole thing in a closet.

I set it up to keep all the overhead off my workstation. I was using a P4 gaming box to run everything. It slowed to such a crawl that even surfing the web was tedious.

So you're telling me a 1kW PSU wont be enough for these purposes? Come on....

A dual 8800gtx QX6700 system can run off a 600W PSU. HDs consume about 2W of power each.

And servers use it for redundancy.
