The person would need to be great at flash as well as actionscript. It could turn into a very good revenue stream for the right candidate.

Please PM me links to portfolios and any other pertinent information.

    Thanks! :)

Edit: Experience with making and tweaking flash video players is a huge plus.

Although I agree, it's still widely used/installed.. :dunno:

If you have a better suggestion for a porn tube style player, I'm all ears. This is for a pretty big project. :o

I think at this point flash still dominates the adult target market. YouTube agreed to stop supporting old browsers and focus on standards and new technology. They can afford to do so, as they're pretty much trend setters now.

    What Joe said..

After a year and YT has set the trend, then we can afford to be picky. Until then or until the industry comes together and decides to forgo flash, flash it is :hs:

you're probably more likely to have hipster users on ipads or iphones (which don't support flash) than grandpas in IE6.

an html5 player would probably be quicker to design than a flash player.. but if it didn't get the kind of results you want, you could change to flash later.

the biggest concern with html5 is just the video codec, right? so even if you use flash.. use a codec that's compatible with html5 (everyone but firefox does AVC, yea?) in case you want to change later without re-encoding your entire library

if its on the scale Trevs hinting at encoding in multiple formats isnt a big issue.

Flash has been getting a bad wrap lately unsure why, as it works ok and with its ability to handle xml it can actually be made into a really powerful tool.

the site exists now on a "medium" scale.. a lot more effort will be put into it after a much better player and a few more additions to the site are completed. :o

and yes, the xml behind it is ftw (it being flash)

depends on the quality/resolution. HD encoding can take quite a while. I only ever encode to VC1, though, so I don't really know what the encode times are like for AVC or OGG

there's no one codec that will work in every browser. Chrome and Safari support AVC. AVC is pretty awesome.. it's what Blu-Rays use when they can't be bothered to spend the time on a quality VC-1 encode. But AVC is not an open standard, and just because no one has sued over AVC patents for HTML5 use yet.. there's no reason that they might not in the future, so Firefox supports OGG. I don't really know anything about OGG video except that it's an open standard.

Last I heard, W3C was considering dropping video from html5 entirely since they can't pick between the two. What's important for you as a video host is that both AVC and OGG are better than the mpeg alternatives in terms of bang for buck. I can't imagine AVC not working with Flash, but I don't know if OGG will.

Basically, I just got you started with about a million possible reasons why you should stick to Flash for now and forget HTML5, but I still think you should consider your video codec carefully before re-encoding everything to one.

its gonna be a long time before we see html5 based video players.
Yes, yt has a beta but missing from it is some VERY important features.
    gpu acceleration.
    layered video for ads.
video layer security for copyrighted works.
It will come... but it is still quite a few years away.
TS i wish you luck, i dont have any extra time to assist you and my devs are busy as hell right now too.

If it was me, I would get in touch with a dev through Activeden.
You might be able to find someone willing to work with you and most of them are freelancers/

We just used flowplayer and jquery.

html5 will support multiple formats so yes, you can use ffmpeg server side to do you encoding in h264.

For the most part, for now... you are better off sticking with a flash based player.
I know it sucks, but, there are still a lot of issues with browser not supporting html5 and quality playback is still iffy. For market penetration, flash is still king. I know it sounds like im a sackrider, trust me, i cant wait to switch platforms, but, it isnt there yet.
