    Any recommendations? Can't be double-edged (against TX law to carry that). I'm a paramedic looking for a last-ditch knife in the event that my pocket folder gets taken away from me...

    Get a neck knife.

    When you get flipped over or shoved in an awkward spot in the back of a rig it's gonna be alot easier to grab something from around your neck than from your boot.

    Or why not a fixed blade? There's tons of fixed blade rescue knives that could be used for defense as well and sit on your hip.

    Texas law defined that as a dagger, which is an "illegal knife". You can own, just can't carry.

    (6) "Illegal knife" means a:
    (A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches;
    (B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown;
    (C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stiletto, and poniard;
    (D) bowie knife;
    (E) sword; or
    (F) spear.

    I like to think that I have good scene safety. We wear external ballistic vests on high threat calls (law assists, shootings, stabbings, etc) but as we know, you can never predict what's going to happen.

    Can't carry a gun on duty. I have a CHL, I wish I could.
    Plus we have no control as to where we get called to, lots of places we go to are off-limits for CHL holders (schools, jail, etc. just to name a few).

    You're not allowed to wear a fixed blade on your belt? Even if it's a rescue knife?

    What kind of mickey mouse bullshit outfit do you work for?
