Blackhawk makes a good one. What's wrong with the kydex paddle holster that it came with? As long as you're not trying to carry concealed they're pretty sturdy :dunno:

Get leather for a duty holster, nothing is a bigger pain in the ass than having a kydex rig bust in the middle of your shift.

that's what I was going to suggest. A lot of people here don't like them, but I have one of the Serpas and I really like it. Very good retention system I think.

That's interesting. For me, it seems to put my finger on the frame, above the trigger, which is how I draw anyway. It's a perfect fit for me.

Found a Fobus belt style holster for $19 with a dual retention system and adjustable retention screw.

They all make XD duty holsters. If one warehouse doesn't have it, look elsewhere. Many of the police suppliers won't carry XD holsters as it's not a common duty weapon yet but if you check manufacturers you will find them in stock. Copsplus inventory is taylored to what's commonly bought so you won't see shit for XDs there.

Go to www.xdtalk.com and ask what is popular there. You will find a number of cops that carry the XD.

Personally, leather or nylon is a better choice for duty carry. Kydex is ok if you go with something like Blackhawk Serpa or other high end company. Fobus I wouldn't use if you gave one to me.
    Safariland's 6280 is a LII,

    Safariland ALS holsters.

That's what I'd choose for duty. Unlike thumb breaks, hoods, etc., the ALS portion of the holsters above locks the pistol in as soon as it's in the holster. Unlike the Serpa holsters, you are not at any risk of ND's from finger placement upon release of the pistol. The release is where your thumb would normally fall when taking a firing grip on the pistol for your draw. Instead of having to rotate a hood back up for retention, the ALS system is a backup that works automatically with no manipulation necessary. The SLS hood is a further element of retention. For open, duty carry, I'd pick the model with the SLS hood and the ALS release. I have the 6304, and it's badass.

I really don't get the whole ND scare with the serpas. Have any of you ever even heard of one? I don't know about you guys, but my finger goes right to the frame, below the slide when I draw, so it would be there anyway. I've never come near the trigger when I draw.

Okay, then how about this scare:

The Serpa holsters have a mechanism that is easily clogged with dirt and debris. When this happens, it is impossible to get your pistol out, because the dirt gets behind the release lever, preventing it from moving at all. On some of the older ones (I think they've reinforced the new ones), if you pull really hard trying to get your blaster out, you will instead just rip the holster body off of the paddle, and your gun will still be locked in the holster body.

This IS a documented event. There are documented cases of the Serpa holster contributing to ND's.

Have YOU ever used one? It's not really easily clogged, there's lots of room for everything to move around. I can't see anything getting stuck in there easily.

As for the "OH MY GOD MY GUN IS GONNA GET STUCK IN THERE FOREVERZ" bullshit, the gun comes out even if the lock isn't engaged if you pull hard enough. The holster is held to the paddle or belt loop with three tight screws, you're not gonna rip that off. I've purposely pulled on it just to see what would happen and it just comes out, it's just harder.

All I've heard is "This is an ND waiting to happen!" and claims of it happening but never actual proof or even close to a report of something happening.

If this holster makes you have an ND, you should NOT be shooting.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but while I've figured out most of the acronyms on this site, what is ND?
