Just got my TX CHL a week ago, so I need to pick up something a little easier to carry than my Sig 229 which I plan on leaving in my truck at all times.

I REALLY have a thing for revolvers and was looking at a few S&W and Taurus guns at the local shop today. My budget is $500 though, so that ruled out most of the J-frames.

WMD help me out and recommend something for me to look into. Also, something that I could find a IWB holster for would be great.

    A 642 J frame costs more than $500? That's fucking nuts.

You're probably not going to be shooting 357 out of a J-frame anyway, so just pick up a .38+P model. Should be able to find one for close to your budget.

Ruger SP101 - Awesome compact revolver.

Goes for around $450 or less.

Probably doesn't even need to be used with a $500 budget. They sell em local for $469 here.

Waaaaaaaaaaaay to heavy for CCW, in my opinion.

Valid point, but the TS did say he liked revolvers. This one is small and built well, so I thought I'd mention it. I've carried one and it was quite livable.

I paid $490 after tax locally for my 642. My holster was $68. That's pretty much your budget right there. You could find a cheaper holster to live with for a while, or see if you can find a low-low internet price on the gun.

And yeah, I'd look into a glock or another sub-compact, but I just can't get enough of revolvers for some reason. Love those things.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 642 (in my pocket) but the revolver is kind of out of date. If you're going to carry IWB there's no reason you shouldn't be carrying a glock 26 or larger, at least in my opinion.

Just because a brick is IWB doesn't mean that it isn't noticeable. MG has his G29 for "winter carry" but uses his J-frame during the summer simply because it's easier to conceal with lighter clothing. The grip of a revolver has a much more natural looking print than the back of the slide and grip of a semi-auto.

Bersa .380 auto. For $500 you can get one to shoot, one to drop.

Because in a more expensive area they are slightly more expensive and have a higher sales tax?

Whatever, I don't mind paying a few dollars extra to support the local gun store that remembers MG and my names and hobbies. Local businesses that bother to EARN my business I am happy to support. Capitalism. :)
