Can I ask what you take when travelling. I can't see the logic of bringing 4GB worth of memory vs. 4 1GB cards. If you lose one of the smaller ones or your bag gets stolen or whatever(Those damn Cairo kids), the loss won't seem as great, especially if you have all your great pictures on one card.

If you only had one card in your camera, when would you lose it? It's always in the camera.

If you had 4 1GB cards and your bag got stolen, where do you normally keep your extra cards?

You're probably more likely to lose one of your 3 extra cards putting other things into your pockets/removing them then you are someone stealing your bag. :sadwavey:

The argument is lose all your pics or lose 1/4 of your pics, but when it's more probable that you'll lose 1/4 of your pics the entire scenario changes.

It's more like lose 1/4 of your pics or lose none of them.

I put one on my wallet, one int he camera and one in my money belt type thing(Not relaly amoney belt but I don't know how to describe it).

I've just heard many stories when on the road from disgruntled people that lost thier cards/pictures either by themselves wrecking the one card somehow, by getting thier camera stolen, having the photo place ruin their card, etc... It's just that in some countries you never know and I've had the photo place "misplace" my card and lose it, but magically all my pictures were processed and ready for me to purchase(In Turkey).

A lot of travel insurance covers camera loss and if the camera gets stolen, they replace it very fast if you pick a decent insurance company. Plus then you only would have lost one of your cards with the camera.

I realize that the probability of this happening is relatively rare but I've had it done to me once nd have heard of it done enough times to bring a few smaller cards.

Of course if you are staying at home, the photo places are less dodgy, you aren't travelling great distances and there aren't as many chances for you to lose the card so I would definitly take the higher memory one.
