For most people its not an issue, but I am looking to gain strength in my neck for wrestling and such...
My neck is between 16-17 inches which for someone my height and weight not only looks ridiculous, but is terrible for the MMA training I do.

Generally, if you can control someone's head, you can control there body, I need to build strength in my neck to resist forced head movement.

I was doing weighted exercises by putting a 25 pound dumbbell on my forehead when laying down and bringing my chin down and head up.... did reverse and side to side. Didn't really do anything for me over a few weeks. I don't think it targets the area well.

Was gonna get a head harness, but I am worried its going to be the same outcome as the dumbbell stuff...

    Anyone have any recommendations?

don't just work your neck, work your necks supporting muscles, too

a neck harness is a great investment - 4-way neck machine at the gym is great, I use it 4x a week. As wendler says, its doesnt have to be about using heavy weight with the harness - don't be afraid to use high reps

you should be doing tons of neck work in conditioning where you mma fight..if you don't do any conditioning there, I can give you a list of about 10 diff neck excercises that you do with a partner...

well he posted on the Q&A:

What I've found out recently is (like everything) volume is not as important as intensity. So while you don't want to max out with neck training (I tried this one time) you still want to train heavy enough so that 10-15 reps is fairly difficult.

I'll have to give that a try now.

What kinda of weight have you been using with the harness?

Thats what I have been looking for.
I ordered the head harness and should recieve it any day now. However, at home I only have dumbells which I dont think will connect into the chain of the harness well. I am going to buy a 25 pound plate and a 45 pound plate as I dont think I will need anything else.

    and I quote:

"I’m not a big fan of neck bridges as they seem unsafe and every time I see someone doing them I have this intense urge to kick their heads out from underneath them. Since I know I’m not the only that thinks like that, I’ll play it safe and stick to the neck harness and the 4 way neck machine."
