I have pretty good experience with NDA's and allot depends on the jurisdiction you are hoping to protect yourself in. The laws in California are very different than other states etc.
    What country are you in?

You might want to consider a general 2 way NDA that not only protects you during the contract but also provides an amount of protection againts the client during that contract as well.

Shoot me a pm with more details on where you are going and I can tell you how to at least make attempts to protect yourself.

I would also consider an Non-competitive agreement if the software is unique enough.

My company uses a general 2 way NDA, but we will not sign a non-compete! we are a development firm, and don't want to limit our prospects
