Have you guys ever had any problems with generic memory? The one I'm looking at for my pbook is from Fry's/Outpost. My friend picked one up and it was Legacy branded. See link here.

It's $160 versus $210 for Corsair. What has your experience been when picking a memory upgrade? In my past experience, I always bought the cheapest tier-1 brand like Kingston's ValueRAM series. But the price difference between name brand and generic is $50, so I'm just really unsure.

Any insight would be appreciated. :)

I've always bought Crucial or Kingston, over 5 GB worth.

I was having problems with apps crashing lately. I took out all the RAM that was not originally shipped with the machine and the only RAM that worked without causing problems was memory from Crucial. The other was very generic RAM that I had bought for very cheap prices...less than $50 for 512MB. So, I recently purchased more RAM from Crucial and don't plan on buying generic RAM until convinced otherwise. It may very well be that generic RAM is fine, but I use some graphic intense apps and ever since switching all my RAM to memory supplied from Crucial, I haven't had a single app crash on me. That's just my 2 cents.

I've done countless terabytes of numerous brands, and Corsair is without a doubt the best memory I've used.

I would go with Crucial or Kingston as well. I have ordered plenty of RAM from Crucial and have never had a problem. When I ordered 1GB for my G5 from Crucial, it was actually the same RAM that shipped with my G5.

I've had gigabytes and gigabytes of Mwave brand memory from mwave.com and have had no problems ever with it. So personally I don't think the name brand has anything to do with it; you're basically just getting screwed.

    Kingmax 1GB stick -- $183

Not a single complaint in their reviews (which most are from Powerbook users). Average rating -- 5 stars.

crucial memory is lame. Kingmax is okay. I'd much rather go with corsair.

PNY is a pretty reputable brand but I don't think 256 is even worth the hassle.

    onelove -- the 17" holds 2GB. $183 x 2.
