So I have a Canon Powershot A630 and I have been wanting to get a lens for it. So I got on Ebay and found some 2x telephoto lenses for it that are reasonably priced. So now, what I would like to know is, does this mean it's just giving me 2x optical zoom? Or is it multiplying my 4x optical by a factor of 2? Or how does that work? Also, if someone could point me in the direction of a good optical telephoto lens, that'd be great.

the 'lens converters' you are talking about are just like putting a magnifying glass in front of your lens. Everything will be 2x. And ime it looks like you are taking pictures through a magnifying glass too.

So what's the best thing I could go for when looking to get better optical zooms?

Best thing for image quality? an slr with a real lens, or walk closer.

but sure, try out the attachements, they might work for you.

I just kind of wanted something point and shoot that I could also tinker around with so the A630 seemed like a great deal. It's still a great camera. Just wondering if there's any lenses I can add to it to make it be able to take better macros and have better opitcal zooming.

adding lenses to a p&s usually take away from the quality. if you really need to get a better framed photo, move closer.
