    Can you give me a live example of one to see how it works?

    How do I actually build the database, do I have to code it or can I build it using an external app with a gui?

    I didn't say they were not. I was hinting he should pick one up since he's evidently is a n00b at mySQL.

    Create the MySQL database

    Run mysql from the command line to start the MySQL client. % mysql Now create the database. create database links_db;Now create the tables. Create the category table

    I think the easiest way to do this is to give you the information you'll need to create each table, then discuss the nitty-gritty details. Since we'll talk about the category table first, here's how to create it: CREATE TABLE category ( num INT NOT NULL auto_increment, date_modified DATE DEFAULT '0000-00-00' NOT NULL, name VARCHAR(50) DEFAULT '' NOT NULL, description VARCHAR(75), keywords VARCHAR(200), status INT DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL, KEY xdate (date_modified), KEY xname (name), PRIMARY KEY (num));You can type all of this on the mysql command line, or you can cheat. Copy the create statement into a text file and name it something like cat_create.sql. From the command line for your operating system, type % mysql links_db < cat_create.sqlThis will send the statements into the mysql client and create the table for you. To verify that this was done correctly, go into the mysql client and see. %mysql links_dbYou should see Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or \g.Your MySQL connection id is 2 to server version: 3.22.32Type 'help' for help.mysql>now type mysql> show tables;and you should see the category table listed +--------------------+| Tables_in_links_db |+--------------------+| category |+--------------------+To look at the table structure type mysql> describe category;

    phpmyadmin owns you

    www.hotscripts.com - search for ePHP, it'll install PHP, mySQL, Apache, and phpmyadmin all automatically for you (on a Win32 environment).
