not to mention, even if you could afford that, who the fuck knows what the sides are this early in its development, could be complete and utter AIDS and full failure of the central nervous system and a heart attack.

It pretty much just means they inserted the gene into e coli and had the bacteria pump it. After awhile, they would grab the whole bag of stuff thats left, and isolate the particular protein using whatever method they choose.

My only concern is that bacteria doesn't necessarily fold/assemble the protein in the same way we humans do, and thus we can end up with an end-product that's different in effect than if produced in humans, even if they are chemically identical. (Similar principle to chirality... i.e. L- anything works as normal and R-anything is useless in humans.)

This was what actually happened in early gene therapy for Cystic fibrosis and most of the test subjects died as a result.

yeah, but you'd be amazed on how amazing nature and the human body is, just when you think there is something that is going to unlock the proverbial door, the body has a natural counteracting agent for it. We all thought igf would cause mofo's to get ginormous, but that really hasn't been the case, its still all about insulin and test. Igf binding protein has made igf gains hit and miss.

But genetics are a bit different. All those counteracting mechanisms have been built through adaptation. None of what has been done was on a purely genetic level.
