    Cross post from XDTALK
    ================

    I find out why it's doing what it's doing but I can't figure why how it happened. Explanation below, another cross post.

    So what can cause this to happen after 3300 rounds of trouble free operation?

    Your first 2 answers are serious? How do I remedy those?

    SA covered their ass by saying you need to load your magazine with slide open in the manual so technically this is not a problem. :mamoru:

    that's common knowledge. a full capacity magazine has to be loaded with slide locked otherwise the top round will press against the bottom side of the slide.

    I was able to do this before without a problem and all of sudden this is impossible?

    1 is pretty dirty, shot about 800 or so through it. 1 has about 300 rounds through it and last one is brand new never shot a round through it. They all decided to give me crap over this all at the same time.

    But my 16 rounders are behaving themselves.

    edit: On second thought on that brand new mag, since I never shot with it before I need to take him out of equation.

    Sounds like something is wrong with your pistol then. That sucks.

    My XD9SC does the same thing...

    You really have to slam a fully loaded mag in with the slide not locked. It works though...

    How often do you clean your mags? And, are you shooting factory ammo?

    It sounds like, what you are experiencing is some resistance caused by either the follower getting hung up by some debrie in the slide body. Or ammo that's too long, and is binding in the middle somewhere.

    As for what you mentioned regarding the slide bar, contacting the magazine and pushing the bullet down, that's how they are designed to work. It's what keeps tension off your slide relase and keeps it from going to slide lock. It also gives tension towards your mag spring so that it forces a round up to engage it and allows it to strip a round from the magazine.

    It's very very easy to clean XD mags, just take a pen to the bottom index, and slide out the base pad. I clean my mags more often than my gun. 90% of weapons failure to feed is either the mag or ammo.

    If your 16rounders work, and your 10 rounds don't, it's definitely mag or ammo related.

    I've never had to use 10 rounders so I can't tell you how well they hold up. Check the mag well as well, it wouldn't be far fetched to find some debrie that got hung up in there as well causing resistance. Take a set of calipers to the magazine and compare them to your 16 rounders.
