I took these today...Rigged a tripod to my front bumper, and used my wireless remote to control the shutter...I think they turned out pretty well.

Execution looks like it went well. It would be nice to see those pictures with a more interesting background.

The problem with the back ground is this- you have to find a parking lot large enough to turn circles, but with a more interesting background. Today was heavily overcast, so the sky doesn't pop. The sky color is exactly as the pictures show - grayish white.

This is what it looked like on my buddy's Mazda. I'll have to get the pictures from him of my car.

You should look into a wider lens, but it's definitely a good start/cool that you made it yourself.

I was using my 18-70, and was shooting wide open. Had I been any wider, you would have seen the tripod and the bungees on the bumper. We tried to rig a monopod, but that didn't work. I would love to have one of those suction cup mounts, so I would able to get a tighter crop on the car with less road.

I'd dangle my D50 and kit lens off that, but no way would my D2H or any of my other lenses come near it.

It was quite stable actually. The trick is to really stop down, and use a slow shutter speed. I think I was at f22 and 1/12 of a second. I just drove in an arc, and my speedo didn't even register any speed... :eek4:

Very nice. Do you have the steps on how you made that rig? And as far as the bars showing you can always clone-stamp them out later (that's what I saw some people in a magazine do to an Elise). Do it at night, with a lot of lights in the background it could look pretty sick. Good job for a first try though.

You need to get more car into the frame. Just looking down the side of a car with no identifying marks really isnt all that interesting at all.

You need to show more car and then clone out the parts of the rig that are visible.

I love rig shots, but that is a scary looking rig. i wouldn't dangle the d200 off of that.

You guys think that this is all unstable and chit - I never doubted that it wouldn't hold..there was barely any deflection, I made sure the cords were uber tight, and triple checked my work. No scratches on the car FTW, and more than two good shots. I was scared at first...thats why I let my other two friends go first. :eek3:

Nice shots. To get around the need for circles in a parking lot have someone in the car w/ you running the remote so you can just drive.
