Rented one from www.rentglass.com ........highly recommend them if you want to try a lens before buying one. Best prices online, and easiest to deal with from what I have read.

Anyways, I took over 1000 pics this weekend alone with this lens. All of the pictures shown below were with the camera handheld......let me tell you, it got HEAVY. I shot alot of pairs at the drag strip with the tripod, but freehanded the individual car pics. All 510 pictures I took at the RC track were handheld FWIW.

A simple resize, and in a few a touch of saturation.......otherwise straight out of the camera. Critisizm is welcome......

To be honest a lot of those don't really pop out at me. Doesn't look like you were shooting with the best light though, and there's nothing you can do about that.

I considered this lens before I decided to go with the sigma 100-300 f4 with a 1.4 teleconverter. Yeah, it lacks IS, but focusing is faster and it's not push pull. 100-300 with converter was $980 (or something, I forgot exactly), while I believe this lens is $1400

edit: With this IS I could probably get pics with the Canon that I couldn't get with the sigma, but with the constant f4 aperature and faster focusing I can get some pics with the sigma that I couldn't get with the Canon.

100-400 is regarded as one of the best walk-around birding lenses though. I rarely see it on the sidelines however.

hahaha, sorry, the one switch I forgot to say was the IS mode. mode 2 is for tripod work so it only cuts out camera shakevertically so you could pan. IS mode 1 is standard hand holding.

But on a sunny day it probably didn't make any difference.

I decided to throw borders on these at the last minute........not thinking about them when I cropped.

You wouldn't know the track even if it had the name in some of the pics........its NHRA sanctioned, but nothing major.......Fayetteville Motorsports Park.....

Damn, those prices for rentals are not bad at all. Is there anything else entailed in it besides the rental cost (and shipping I assume)?

Framing's too close, and they just don't have the 'wow' effect.
Technically they're fine, but atistically they're kind of boring. :hs:

Thanks for the replies so far. I didn't expect a bunch of people on here to like the content too well.......I think there are only a handful of us that like racing style pictures. IMO though I've nailed my timing, and am just upgrading equipment to help me capture the moment alot better.......so seeing the differences from where I started to where I am now is night and day. I do know I still have room for improvement though.

Its straight forward as it says. If you want a lens hood just ask in the comment section and they will throw it in. They gave me a UV filter without asking too.

Push/pull lenses are really dumb. They suck dust into your sensor.

Ok.......well obviously I picked up on the tight cropping. :mamoru:

Other than that........pic quality look ok to everyone? I know most of the RC shots look soft, but that issue has been figured out.
