I spent a couple hours on Saturday shooting at a 1/2"x10"x10" mild, untempered steel plate with various calibers. I also wanted to verify the "armor piercing" 7.62 I bought a few months ago...the pics speak for themself. Ammo as well as firearm used listed with each pic.

Not sure of weight but the headstamp is FN 75 and sure enough, the penetrator plowed right through the steel. Picking up some tool steel for the next round of testing.

I'm not sure that I need to penetrate 1/2" of steel, but looks like a fun time to me! Pick up some m855 stuff to try out of the ar too :big grin:

mild steel, thus the damage. At the steel and 3 gun matches we shoot armor (500 Brinell steel plate).

That stuff will even take hits from this...

Even if you buy a piece of tool steel it won't be any harder than mild steel unless you have some way to heat treat it. That said you can buy hardened tool steel, I get all my materials from speedymetals.com, they cut to order, their prices are reasonable and they are prompt shippers.

That's where I got mine. We have a heat treat line that I'm going to try to abuse :noes:
