all shot on manual with AF on, this is the first real camera experience i have had since my senior year animation class in highschool...so its been a good 4 years since i have picked anything up except for a point and shoot. all the photos are uploaded straight from the camera, no PP as i have not re installed photoshop on my computer haha

so before you all tear me to shreds let me get a few things out in the air.

obviously i have not gone out and done anything with the camera, i have not made time as of yet but college has been busy this week. im trying to begin understanding DOF as you can see in several of the photos.
my one question is, how do i limit getting an extreme amount of light, as in the photo of my workstation, where im getting flare from the lamp...how can i limit the effects of harsh sources of light? Also, what size is acceptable for posting uploaded photos on OTAP?
...i have a lot of other questions but i have effectively lost all train of thought.
anyways so far i love this camera and the 18-135 does not seem too darn bad for this noob. gracias

How do i determine what to make my ISO settings without using auto iso all the time? is there a "rule of thumb"
...my copy of Understanding Exposure came today so i havent done more than leaf through that.

Let your ISO be determined by your aperture and shutter speed. If you need more light but are locked into an aperture and shutter speed up your ISO.

if you shoot in raw you do that afterwards in post processing.

id say read through the stickies on here(and some of the books found in them) and the next time you post a set of shots go with a common theme(just not waterdrops) and we'll be able to give you some real critique. when starting from ground zero its hard to give you advice on what to try when it may not make sense, but after reading some more stuff, it might, so go read

I lol'd at my desk when I saw that.

#2 would be  if the lens cap wasn't there. I'm still learning myself. So I feel your pain. There are lost of good stuff in the stickies. Check it out and see what you can come up with.

The best thing you can do is to just shot. Take pictures every chance you get. Its the best way to learn.
