He earned it several times over, but he says he saw a Company that awarded it to every single person after a couple of their guys earned it. He says so many guys get it without earning it that it's become a joke, so he's not going to wear it.

    discuss, motherfuckers. :madfawk:

I've seen this happen with the CIB.

I say if he feels that he deserves to wear it, then wear it. And then he can look at the other that didn't deserve it in shame.

isnt it CAR - Combat Action Ribbon ?? ... maybe its different for Army

but while we were in Iraq ... they were being really picky about who got it ... but i think they are changing it and giving it out a lot more now ... rules of war are changing though ... not like it was in the old days ... :dunno:

Yeah the CAB is a joke. I'd search my posts if they hadn't been purged...but yeah ...random people are getting it. It depends on the 2 star commander and what his specific requirements are. For instance...in my buddies unit (Transportation Company Commander) He as the company commander had to draw detailed diagrams of IED attacks after the fact and detail exactly what happened and if you were in a specific radius of the bomb you were awared the CAB. In his specific case he justified over 70 CABs to his company. He himself missed it by literally 5 or 10yds outside the blast radius.

He told me that there were other units that were being awarded CABs carte blanche for just convoying up to baghdad without incident. Weird.

He's a Combat Engineer with the 3rd Infantry Division, but he's not infantry.

I feel where he's coming from but not to wear an award that he earned is kinda childish. No offense to him its his award. I mean the award is for his service not for bragging rights. He should feel proud because he knows that he earned it.

There was an entire company from 222 Infantry in Somalia that refused to wear their CIB's because their Company Commander got relieved trying to go in and help the Rangers. To this day I know guys from there that don't wear it.

I wouldn't wear it however. A CAB is pretty :greddy:
It was created 'cause all the POUGs were complaining about how 11bs would get awards, but POUGs wouldn't.

Let me put it this way, Do all of you wear your service ribbon? Every jackoff gets one after AIT. How about all the the AAM's or other awards that everyone gets just for putting in time? It's an award. I can understand not wearing an award if you felt you didn't earn it but to not wear one because other jackoffs belittle it, is trivial.
I'm sure we all know some folks that act like their combat unit patch is big shit and we ignore them but do we not wear our patch?

I had a Drill Sgt who refused to wear his combat patch even though he'd been deployed multiple times with 10th mtn. :dunno:

Everyone has their own view but I think if you earned an award then you should wear it.

Not entirely accurate. When the battlefield changed and reformed in late 2003 to a non-linear battlefield and when Artillery Platoons were performing the same missions of Infantry Platoons the focus of the war changed drastically. Why would you award a platoon of Infantry the coveted CIB but not the Artillery guys? The were essentially performing the same mission.

I liked the idea of the CAB initially...but now it's changed...changed from concept. Now you get guys wearing the CAB that were within 1000yds of a rocket attack. Whoo hooo...big whoop.

agreed. i wear mine tho, but i was part of an IED.

most of the guys on our FOB earned theirs by simply being at work when the place got mortared. or when they saw an RPG fly over the FOB.

its gay. i know tons of guys that dont wear theirs.

    CAB = Combat Action Badge.

It used to be that the only soldiers that earned a badge for close combat were the infantry, with their Combat Infantry Badge (CIB). It used to be that Infantry were the ones that would get up close and personal with the enemy while the majority of the rest of the army would rarely be close enough to get a good look at the enemy. That has all changed, now. Since pretty much anyone/everyone in Iraq now can be called on for close combat roles, just like the infantry, the non-infantry soldiers needed a ribbon like the CIB to show that they had engaged the enemy at close quarters and performed well. So the CAB was created for non-infantry, and the CIB is still reserved for infantry soldiers only.

Sad that it used to be the only ribbon most infantry would wear, now they have this that few take pride in.

    Thanks for the explination.
And I can see both sides..but if he earned it, by being in combat, no one can't take that away even douche bags who don't deserve it.
