A friend called me up to do a photoshoot so i said yes not knowing what i was getting myself into. long story short he was doing a commercial and wanted me to help out and take stills of the model, product , cars, and behind the scenes It was my first time shooting a model and apparently her first time doing any modeling and was apparently also friends with my friends so it was a learning experience for the both of us. so without further ado here they are.

still kinda new to lighting, but I think 3 and 4 could use some sort of lighting from behind to separate her hair from the background

second one needs more lighting for just the impact gun. Its also OOF

Last one needs more lighting on the tools. You can hardly see them. It could also be my monitor. Im at work with a shit 17"

light seems harsh where you can see it but the photos are all quite dark.

and I can tell why this is her first time modeling...and why it should be her last.

Need to kill the glare on her face. It really destroys the pictures.

The shadow on the read 1/4 panel and bumper of picture 2 ruins it in my opinion.

Her oily face and flip-flops kill it for me. And I agree about the lighting, too many shadows.

seeing as how i dont have any softboxes what could i do to soften the lighting. the only diffuser i have is one stofen knock off. should i try less powerful flash but open up the aperture more? Im shooting again tomorrow with the same group but at different location with different cars.

i was using 2 strobes for these. i have 3 but didnt feel like getting the third one out. hopefully it wont be as hot in the place tomorrow so she wont be sweating and glarey

Get yourself a couple of pieces of white foamcore (4' x 8' sheets are only about $12 at art supply stores) Have a buddy hold them or clamp them to a light stand and bounce your flash off them. This will effectively give you a large, soft light source.
