I get mine from Vitaminshoppe. I really like it and the price is great at $2.99. But after a week or two the protein/flax smell starts to linger inside and gets stronger as time goes by. I find myself buying new bottles every few months.

Anyone find a higher quality shaker bottle without this issue? Probably something that is not made of cheap plastic and can hold at least 24oz. My guess would be to check out a bike shop and see what they have. paging ccrooks? :hsd:

i've been using the same rubbermaid "chug" bottles for years and never had any problems. I just make sure to wash them out with hot water as soon as I can after using them so whatever reside is left doesn't go bad and the smell from it doesn't set.

in general, lexan (nalgene, certain rubbermaid) bottles tend not to hold smell like other plastic bottles can

This is exactly what I do. I've had the same bottle for two years at least. I drink the whey, then rinse with hot water right after. If it ever stinks, soak it with soapy water or lemon juice. Mine has stunk so bad it will make your eyes water.

I wash mine immediately after use and it's fine. I noticed that the smell was an issue for me when I mixed with milk but since I've switched to water only it's been fine.

Seriously, at Walmart there's the rubbermaid bottles and that don't leak at all -- less than 3 bux per.

Alternatively, shell out an extra couple dollars and get the Blender Ball Shakers from GNC. Only good thing to come outta that store.

I lost a bottle with some protein shake under my car seat for a few months. When I found it, shit was like a nasty fucking forest of stuff growing. I didn't even open it, I'm sure the smell would have killed me.

Its difficult to wash bottles immediately after due to my schedule. I typically drink my shakes while im on the road and they will usually sit around for 30 minutes before i can get to drinking it.

I have done hot water and lemon but it will stink again soon. I'll check out the blender bottles and nalgene. Thanks :bigthumb:

then you're gonna have to replace one every 3 months to avoid the smell... considering the price, that's not too bad

I've left mine on my desk at work over a long weekend (no AC in the building) and Monday morning it's fairly bad but usually after a good cycle in the dish washer it's all set. I did have one that turned into black water here on my desk .. must have closed the lid on it .. I rinsed it and put it away, the lil water that was left in it turned green the next morning. I threw that one away.

make sure you wash it immediately after use or else the protein stains the plastic.

take 2 bottles, one dry with the protein, one with water, mix at the last second. hell, take a second bottle of water (or one bottle with twice the water you need) and use whats left to rinse it out the shaker.

I've been using the same 2 blender bottles for a year and a half now and I have not had a single problem with either in regards to performance or smell or anything.

If I'm just drinking whey/milk I rinse it out real quick... anything else (metamucil, peanut butter, egg) mixed in and I scrub it out lightly with a sponge. No smell. I run them through the dishwasher like once a month.

Fill up with some hot water and add some bleach and let it sit overnight.
