whenever i click on a link for an image, it automatically downloads it to the desktop. i cant view images in the browser, it just downloads it every time. i dont remember setting any sort of preference to do this, it just sorta happened. ive looked through all sorts of preferences and options and not seen anything related to this. this happen to anybody else before?

Get Webkit and see if it happens... Webkit is the nightly build of Safari and should use it's own set of default options...

if resetting doesnt do anything, removing the preference list and logging in and out works. Located in

    ~/library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist

Move it to the desktop. Downside is you loose all your saved user/pass data.
