Picture is 3mb........give it a minute to load, and be sure to maximize it if yor browser resizes images...

Borrowed this lens today and shot about 600 pictures through it. The lens belongs to "David" from here.

Enjoyed having this thing strapped to my 30D. Pictures are nice and sharp, and the AF works quickly. The twist/zoom action took some getting used to......but once I remembered which way to twist it all was well. It is called the Bigma for a reason.....SOB is long at full extension, and quite the oinker. Sigma claims 4 pounds...I think its a couple higher than that.

It was nice being able to pull in at 50mm for some closer shots........versus the 100-400L I am used to. I do like the push/pull of the L better than the twist/grow of the Bigma......thats about the only complaint I really have. Overall a nice lens though.......definitely would recommend it.

    Four more shots....

a good friend of mine bought it and hates it. not because its not sharp, but his complaint is that it doesn't focus fast enough in action shots. Then, the aperture blades got stuck so now he's getting it fixed and selling it.

Funny........same thing happened to the first lens my friend bought (I borrowed this from him). He took it out of the box, factory sealed......AF was inop. He just shelled out ~$1500 at Wolf for this, and its broken out of the box. :hsd: Not that it was Ritz's fault, but it took them 2 weeks to get a new replacement. :ugh:

As long as it stays alive......I think it will do him just fine. Definitely not a choice for a pro......but I think thats obvious with the broad focal range anyways.

I've never used that lens but it seems okay. I'd never buy it though.

But if you're looking for any CC, The picture with the tire and shock seems to be shot too tight.

The pic with the Kawasaki could be cropped tighter. The rider on the left side doesn't add anything to it.

The quad shot seems really soft and it's pretty boring.

The last shot is the best, but it could use more contrast and less saturation. Is he riding on Mars?

Keep up the good work and try finding new angles.

Yeah for a good zoom lens, I love the 100-400L myself. I'd buy it over this Sigma any day of the week.

Wasn't intending on getting CC, but definitely will take any given. It was more or less a play around day, since that was the first time I've used that lens. Birch Creek is a pretty large track......lots of places to get some good angles. I'll be shooting the ATVA Nationals here in a couple months at that track......hopefully I'll get some good shots (with a 100-400L :mamoru: ).

Its not sharp and I dont think you're being picky at all.

Its a good consumer lens, but its definitely not sharp, at least at the extremes. I've never seen a good tele shot out of that lens that I think is sharp.

Thanks for the review. I'm looking into an ultra-telephoto right now for an Airshow and a trip up into Northern California and Oregon.

Both are within 2 weeks of each other and I want 400-500mm

    150-500mm w/ IS goes for $999
    50-500mm f/4-6.3 w/ EX glass and non-IS goes for $1030 (discontinued)
50-500mm f/4.5-6.3 w/ OS and no EX glass is like $1600 (newest lens)

From what I've read, either of the 50-500mm lenses are much sharper than the 150-500mm.

I've seen a couple claims that the new 50-500 is sharper than the older and has better auto-focus and OS can help up to 4 stops.

This is older 50-500mm. Thing is huge.
