went to the range today, haven't gone for about a month. I walk up to the lanes and i see this black guy strapped in full camo/tactical gear. he even has a fucking water back pack on him!

as i was setting up he grabs his AR and runs up the shooting lane (just me, my buddy and him at the range) and keeps running up to like 3 yards from the target 3 FUCKING YARDS. i kid u not. he has those shoot and see targets up and he brings his AR up using the IRON sights, and starts bursting 2-3 rounds AT 3 FUCKING YARDS. i don't think the got the idea that the iron sights WON'T be lined up that close, so he keeps shooting under the target. i don't know what to think of it. he then throws his AR down, grabs his holster, i think he had a P220 and and shoots it AT 3 YARDS! 2 shots and his gun is jammed. he then walks back mumbling something like " I woulda died".

later on he loads up his P220 and goes up about 5 yards and start doing modified gangster style. he shoots down at an angle, gun side ways, but with both hands on the gun. with every shot he keeps switching his hands shooting with both.

I was laughing inside so bad.

so when he decides to leave he walks up to me and ask my about my AR.

him: "what kind of AR is that"
    me: "what?"
him: "what kind of AR is that"
    me: "what do u mean?"
    him: "what does it shoot"
    me: "uh... 556"
    him: "i got a 6.8 AR there"

i go look and sure enough it is a DPMS 6.8spc AR. he pays 24.95 for a pack of 20 bullets? all the while i was thinking "those expensive bullets sure don't make u shoot any better"

me: "how does it shoot compared to a ak bullet?" i thought it was similar in size so i asked

him: "i am getting use to the recoil"
me: "have u shot a 556 AR yet?"
him: " I BEEN IN THE ARMY FOR 9 YEARS!" (sure didn't teach him how to shoot)
    me: "oh"
he then picks up some bullets from the ground, they were some old style wolfs 223 and gives them to me.

him: "here i found these lying around, maybe u can use them"
    me: "....... thanks..."

i can't believe he MISSES AT 3 YARDS with an AR.. but i had a good time.

My AR jammed pretty bad because i did not clean it last time and had some FTE. that and i am shooting dirty wolfs in it.

    .

Ive never been to a public range and dont really intend to. I can either drive an hour to an outside 125 yard range that never has anyone at it, or drive five minutes to my great uncles house in the country

Fuck paying to use a range.
Non profit gun clubs with their own range ftw

Trained in the Shoot House yesterday.

    Titanium Lounge FTW.

You guys ever think maybe he was doing contact drills and trying to practice his transitions? He sounds like a mall ninja, but like, most mall ninjas have no idea what 6.8SPC is.

    Just a suggestion.

since ive been w/ my girlfriend i have barely hit my local indoor pistol range...at her house they have a big piece of rural property and her dad and i are both gun enthusiasts so he actually built a dirt berm with a tractor and whatnot as a backstop to our own private shooting range...weve been shooting water jugs, cinderblocks, soda cans, etc....but eventually i wanna modernize it and buy a couple of metal target stands and maybe some pepper poppers :)
The neighbors dont even care cuz they shoot too.

her dad rocks....i might bring my AR up there today....

You could always build the frame out of 2x4s and 4x4s. Then put a metal lip on the bottom rung so you can insert a piece of cardboard and tape the cardboard on the top rung. Then just hang you target on the cardboard.

I was thinking of building a frame that I could hang clay pigeons from, of course it would only let me shoot about 6 times, but I think it'd be pretty fun.

Just build the frame I described to you, then make something on it that can hold a piece of wood that holds pigeons. Then all you have to do is replace that single piece of wood

Are there any laws that state how high/thick a backstop has to be?

I don't know. It doesn't really matter for me, I live out in the country and can shoot if I have a backstop or not. I just think it would be nice to have one, There's a hillside about 100 meters past where I usually but up targets but between the targets and the hillside, I can't really see. I'd rather have a backstop just incase some morons come wondering up the creek that runs between my targets and the hillside.
