Lately my parents computer which is running windows 98 has started to lock up alot and if it doesnt lock up what it does is little pauses, like you will be scrolling or typing and all of a sudden it will stop then scroll a whole bunch to make up for what it just was like paused at when you where still scrolling or typing....

It seems like it just can't process hardly anyhting anymore...is there anything i can run to try and fix this?

format, reinstall. if they are running 98 I am assuming that they have not cleaned up the computer in a long time. they probably just have a ton of junk that needs cleaned out. also how much RAM do they have? and what processor?

Yep. Might also be worthwhile dropping the $120 or so and upgrading to XP Pro. 98SE is pretty solid, but XP is better.

don't upgrade to XP Pro w/o 384MB of ram or greater.

and XP Pro runs around $140-150.... Dunno where it's legit for less.

Yeah, of course, why buy full version when you can upgrade from 98 with the upgrade version? :)

dunno, I just never liked the upgrade stuff. Although with XP they did make it more like the full-deal.

Yep, with 2k and XP you don't even have to install the old version first, it just asks you for the disc to make sure you're legal.

or pay like 300 bux for a new dell. if that thing has 98, it probably wont run xp well.
there is also nothing wrong with xp home for the average user, and that upgrade can be had for like $99 US, or $783 CAN
