    deffinetly better than the crappy kit lense that comes with it - 17 85 is ok I could use the I.S. and the built

    but for the price you probably spent ($450ish new, $380 used?), there are better options. The 17 85 is soft around the edges, plus max aperture of 5.6 @ 85mm isn't that great.

    It was actually a canon kit - I got the camera and the lense as a kit package for $999.00 New.

    Damn. I got mine a couple weeks ago for $775 from Amazon.

    I checked on Aamazon and other sites none of them are selling the kit with the USM 17 -85 lense for under $1000

    The 17-85 is a small lens, but even that makes the XTi look goofy:mamoru2: :hs:

    for me the benefit didnt justify the cost - I would reather spend the extra cash on new flash and lens's

    I had my rebel 300D since it came out and waited till now to upgrade to the rebel XTi - I am not a Pro by any means - I have alot more to learn

    I had that tamron lens for awhile.
