It's a USB hard drive enclosure designed to hold laptop hard drives, and it comes with a docking bay that fits into a 3.5" bay inside your computer. I've been waiting for something like this for quite some time.

I know there are hot-swap SATA trays (I have three) and cold-swap IDE trays, but this one has the benefit of being inexpensive, completely self-contained, hot-swappable, and usable either in the bay or plugged into any other computer via a regular mini-USB cable.

The docking bay is a little cheap, made of plastic instead of metal, but a few drops of dry teflon bicycle chain lube took care of making the moving parts slide nice and easy. (I didn't have to lubricate the rails that the disk slides in on, so there's no mess.) I like it.

I like it,but hope internet becomes so fast that you can just upload your entire laptop within a small timeframe to another computer.

Gigabit ethernet is already fast enough to make this thing obsolete. BUT, ethernet requires that your computers be connected and accessible to each other. This requires a spare hard drive and a USB port.

I've got a 20GB drive that I fished out of a dead laptop at work last year. 20GB drives probably cost $25 nowadays.
